Simón Mejía and Soy Emilia: “VELUX” – A Planet With No Name Yet

One of the best surprises at Kaputt Festival Futuro was seeing Simón Mejía and Soy Emilia play together at the Depot. It wasn’t just a concert; it was a performance, with both of them behind the equipment, creating the sound of VELUX, their new EP, live.

We listened to VELUX before we arrived, but the live set was different. It was more experimental than the record, made for that moment and that space. The two of them stood behind the decks in a room filled with red light, taking the tracks even further.

VELUX was released on April 15th on Bandcamp through Monte Jungla. Mejía and Juanita Carvajal wrote the lyrics and music, while Oliver Varga handled production and mixing. An experimental short film for the project will premiere in July 2026.

There are six tracks: “Velux”, “Artificial”, “Velocidad de la luz”, “Normal”, “Retrovisión”, and “Latir”. These songs get you moving, but they offer more than just rhythm. “A perfect imitation of an incorrect reality,” says “Artificial.” That line sums up the EP: music that sounds like the present but views it from a different angle.

The collaboration between Mejía and Soy Emilia is one of the strongest in recent Colombian music. Both artists have changed the Latin American scene in their own ways, and together they have created something that stands apart from their solo work.
