MIVA, “Witch Doctor”: Time Doesn’t Always Heal
A crushing hit of sub-bass and the click of the clock lock you into the beat. That’s how “Witch Doctor” opens. Time crushes, wears you down, and hammers away, showing that some pain doesn’t get better on its own. You have to choose to leave.
MIVA was born in Saint-Petersburg and now lives in Montreal. She created this single entirely on her own, handling the songwriting, engineering, mixing, and mastering. “They used to call women like me dangerous,” she writes. “Not because we destroyed things, but because we understood them.” That’s why the song feels raw. The pain is dense, uncomfortable, and there is no easy way out.

“If you want revenge, dig two graves.” She takes this proverb and makes it the heart of the song. It’s about someone who realizes that staying with a loved one struggling with addiction can consume you too. Eventually, the only way not to sink is to let go.
This song isn’t comfortable or easy to digest. It’s visceral, real, and doesn’t follow any formula. To connect with it, you have to face your own darkness. When the weight feels almost unbearable, the final seconds change everything. The R&B cut that closes the track feels like a way out, like breathing again. MIVA shapes her own healing. “Witch Doctor” is her blueprint.
